Taoyin Yoga

Stretching and breathing exercises – The praxis of Taoyin – a Chinese answer to Western physiotherapy to achieve a healthy structure in the back – consists of breathing- and stretching exercises, which will be performed in lying or sitting postures.

On one hand, the exercises bring inner strength and on the other, they will help to relax and let go completely inwardly at the same time.

Taoyin empowers and relaxes the lower back. A sequence of easy-to-learn postures strengthens the tendons and the abdomen, detoxifies the kidneys, and activates good energy flow and blood circulation.  It will energize and relax the lumber area, the lower back, and the psoas muscle group.

Taoist stretching and body twist exercises (on the floor) are to help your internal life force, or Qi, circulate more freely, for the purpose of refreshing, attuning, adjusting, and regenerating your inherited energy. It is a series of postures combined with particular breathing patterns, which also helps to strengthen the tendons, the Qi flow, and the lower back.

Taoyin improves Iron Shirt Qigong and Tai Chi. It will bring strength and relaxation into the lumber area, the sacrum, the pelvic floor, and the internal organs.

Mantak Chia describes in the introduction of his book "Taoyin":

“You will be cultivating gentleness while developing strength. Your spine will become more flexible and your tendons and psoas muscles will be embued with elasticity. The wisdom of your body will awaken with the healthy effects of activating the subtle chemistry within. You will remove blockages to your innate vitality and rejuvenate your body and energy. Improved patterns of physical alignment and movement will recondition your spine and refresh your body by opening Qi flow in the meridians”.
